grass and gstat

Hello
I am a first time user of gstat. I want to analyse a sites file (Zn from
the maas data set). However first of all, i got the message: file not
read. I managed to get rid of this message by looking in the grass subdirs
for the sites file. But then i got a message cannot read real from ... and
then a line from the sites file.
I thought that sites files could be read without modification. What am I
doing wrong here.
