It is not quite clear to me why you convert you point prediction
locations into a grid. Couldn't you just use a points list (with
data() statement)? Do you have your data at grid and your predictions
at some points or another way round? 


And:  zero_dist works for variogram estimation only, it has nothing to
do with points having identical locations. You have to set zero
bigger. Did you check the points you have done from grid? Maybe
heighbour cells have the same coordinates?
