Installing gstat on Unix with gnuplot & gd

Hi... I'm a new member of this list, so maybe this question has been
answered before.

I'm trying to install gstat on a Unix system running Sun (Solaris 2.5 or
2.6), primarily running from an Xwindows interface (xterm). I'd like to
also install gnuplot and gd.

I have downloaded all three packages (gstat, gnuplot, and gd) and
installed them in reasonably proximate locations. Both gnuplot and
gstat are in the path BUT I can't get gstat to find gnuplot. When I try
to plot a variogram (using "gstat -i") I get the error: "sh: gnuplot:
not found" and then a broken pipe.

However, I can start gnuplot from the same directory where gstat
couldn't find it..... and it successfully figures out that my terminal
type is x11.

I have tried to install gnuplot first, then gstat, but obviously I'm
doing something wrong. Help please! I would also appreciate any
pointers people could provide on installing gd with gstat -- I seem to
have it in the right place for gnuplot, but I kludged the gstat
location.

Many thanks for any help any people can provide.
